About the Hotel

Esquina De La Calle Ruinas 432 Y San Agustin, Cusco, Peru

JW Marriott El Convento Cusco, a 5-star luxury hotel, occupies a restored 16th-century Augustinian convent where history is evident in every corner. The property features two exhibition halls displaying archaeological remains from Cusco and Killke civilizations, and offers unique experiences including convent tours with a monk and the opportunity to meet Panchita, the baby alpaca residing in the hotel's patio.

Altitude-Friendly Accommodations

Sophisticated rooms at JW Marriott feature elegant marble bathrooms, deluxe bedding, and an oxygen-enrichment system to relieve altitude sickness. Guests find sanctuary in these renovated accommodations with thoughtful amenities including mini-bars and superb quality linens for a blissful night's sleep.

Peruvian Culinary Excellence

Qespi Restaurant specializes in a Pachamama's Food concept, serving an exquisite mix of earth and local ingredients. Peru's rich culture and mysticism emerge through masterfully handcrafted cocktails and a "Food from the Earth" approach, while creative Peruvian fare includes light snacks and appetizers.

Historic Wellness Sanctuary

The hotel boasts a charming Colonial courtyard with a sculpted stone arch and decorative fountain. Four therapy rooms offer massages, wraps, hot stone and reflexology treatments based on centuries-old Incan healing regimens, complemented by a pool, steam room and sauna exclusively for hotel guests.

Central Cultural Location

JW Marriott El Convento Cusco is 10 km from Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport and only 2 km from Wanchaq. The Museo de arte Precolombino in the cobbled Plaza Nazarenas is just at the end of the street, while Cusco's Plaza de Armas with its peaceful atmosphere is within 0.5 km.

8.6/10

I was really impressed with the central location of the hotel, just two blocks from the main square. The rooms were a bit on the smaller side, especially the terrace on level -2 for certain categories, which could have been bigger for the price we paid. The service was exceptional, from the warm welcome at arrival with the Marriott sign, to the attentive staff like Ricardo Rivera and Angel Huallpamaita at Qespi. The dining experience was top-notch with a variety of delicious options, although the price for some meals was a bit steep. The facilities, including the spa and classes, added great value to the stay.

I had a mixed experience at this hotel. While the rooms could use a good clean, the beauty of the hotel and the kindness of the staff were surprising positives. The highlight was definitely the baby alpaca in the courtyard, perfect for some cute pictures!

While they did try to seat us in less-than-ideal spots, the dining experience was varied and delicious. Shout out to Andrea at the omelette station for making the best eggs ever!
