The hotel is set in a lovely location with stunning views and friendly staff. The rooms, though grand in the past, felt a bit neglected and could use updating. Despite the cleanliness issues, the Christmas decorations added a nice touch. Service was exceptional, with attentive and friendly staff. The location, while beautiful, had some challenges with high fixtures for vertically challenged guests. The dining experience could be improved, with some elements not meeting expectations.

The hotel offers a mix of positives and negatives. The rooms have a tired feel and lack clarity on the standard, with a less-than-ideal view overlooking air con units, but there's a real character in the executive room. The service is fantastic, with friendly and helpful staff, though there's a fine line between boutique and scruffy. The location, despite being in a beautiful garden setting with lovely walks, suffered from excessive breakfast charges. The dining experience, while tasty, was priced high for what was offered. Overall, it has potential but falls short in some areas.

I had a mixed experience at the hotel. The rooms were functional and nicely decorated for Christmas, but lacked the character of the rest of the hotel. Unfortunately, there was a lot of noise and loud talking from about 4am. On the positive side, I stayed in a room with the deepest bath and biggest bathroom I have ever encountered. However, as it was an attic room, it was quite dark, two flights of stairs led to it, there was no view, and it got very warm during my stay.

The room had the deepest bath and biggest bathroom I have ever seen, but the noise and lack of character were disappointing.

The staff went out of their way to please, and although they were focused on weddings, they did apologize for the rowdy guests. We even received a discount for our uncomfortable night.
Location

The location was exactly why I booked - only a 10-minute walk and situated nicely between the racecourse and the river. However, the slight isolation and the gridlocked traffic queue were some drawbacks.
Dining

The dining experience was excellent with delicious food and imaginative options, but it was a bit on the expensive side. However, I wish more options had been included in the rate.
Facilities

The hotel had wonderful facilities, including a marquee set up in the grounds for the guests, providing a nice space to sit in the sunshine.
